Terms of Service
Last updated: March 13, 2026
Plain language: Use DiscAlt respectfully, don't break the law, and understand that we're an early-stage project doing our best. The legalese below says the same thing with more precision.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using DiscAlt ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, don't use the Service. We may update these terms — continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use DiscAlt. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms on your behalf.
3. Your Account
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You may not share, sell, or transfer your account to another person.
- We do not require real names, government ID, or phone numbers. The identity you present is your choice — but you are still accountable for your conduct.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use DiscAlt to:
- Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law.
- Distribute malware, spam, or phishing content.
- Harass, threaten, impersonate, or intimidate other users.
- Post or distribute child sexual abuse material (CSAM). We have zero tolerance for this and will report it to the appropriate authorities.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or to DiscAlt's systems and infrastructure.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including through denial-of-service attacks or automated abuse.
- Use the Service to coordinate or promote violence or illegal activity.
5. Your Content
You retain ownership of content you create on DiscAlt. By posting content, you grant us a limited license to store, transmit, and display that content as necessary to operate the Service (e.g., delivering your messages to other participants in a channel).
We do not claim ownership of your content. We do not use your content for advertising, training AI models, or any purpose beyond delivering the Service — unless you explicitly opt in to optional features like AI-powered search.
6. Content Moderation
Space owners and their designated moderators are primarily responsible for moderating content within their spaces. DiscAlt may intervene to remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms, applicable law, or that pose a risk to the safety of users or the platform.
7. AI Features
DiscAlt offers optional AI-powered features (such as semantic search). These features:
- Require explicit opt-in by the user.
- Process content on DiscAlt-controlled infrastructure unless otherwise disclosed.
- Can be disabled at any time.
We will clearly disclose if any AI feature involves sending data to a third-party provider.
8. Termination
- By you: You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your account data will be removed from our systems.
- By us: We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. Where practical, we'll provide notice and an explanation — but we reserve the right to act immediately when necessary to protect users or the platform.
9. Availability and Changes
DiscAlt is in active development. We make no guarantees about uptime, feature availability, or backward compatibility. Features may be added, changed, or removed. We'll try to communicate significant changes, but the Service is provided on a best-effort basis.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DiscAlt and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. This includes, but is not limited to, loss of data, loss of profits, or interruption of service.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless DiscAlt and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these terms.
12. Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the Service will be resolved under the laws of the jurisdiction in which DiscAlt operates. You agree to attempt informal resolution before pursuing formal legal action.
13. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
